Anthony Mundi and Joe Morales are no strangers to the restaurant business – having more than 30 years combined experience. How they came to own Tres Amigos Cantina is a bit unusual!
They were both managers for a large chain Mexican eatery at this location. On December 26, 2007, they arrived at the restaurant to find it was closing its doors due to bankruptcy and they and their 45 employees were out of a job. Meanwhile in New York, Larry Fraioli, the owner of the property, received a call that his tenant, the restaurant chain, was closing the restaurant and vacating the building. He would now have a vacant building with no tenant.
Then, the AHA moment! Mr. Fraioli called the restaurant managers and asked them if they would like to open a new restaurant at this same location. Within six weeks they opened Tres Amigos Cantina; they hired back most of their original staff, survived the great recession and have been a Brandon favorite ever since! Tres Amigos was voted Brandon’s favorite Mexican restaurant in 2014.
